Alonnisos ranks among the top 10 “small paradises” of the Mediterranean, according to the popular Italian website thewom.it, which receives millions of visits monthly. The website, specializing in sustainability and special forms of tourism, aimed to find Mediterranean islands with pristine natural environments that are not suffering from overtourism and overpopulation.
Among destinations from Croatia, Turkey, Spain, and Greece, travel.thewom.it highlights Alonnisos as “the most peaceful and nature-loving of the Sporades islands with miles of virgin and protected coastline. In Alonnisos, you can dive or perform unique dives in areas within an impressive natural marine park that ‘hosts’ rare species of fauna.”
In collaboration with information networks and tourist organizations such as the Greek National Tourism Offices, the Municipality of Alonnisos, supported by specialized partners, continues this year to promote itself abroad in Italy, the UK, France, Scandinavia, Germany, and other international markets that respond to the call for vacations with authentic experiences, activities, and quality services in a truly exotic environment.
“In an era where mass tourism and overtourism dictate their rhythms, Alonnisos naturally differentiates itself. It is encouraging that year by year, the share of travelers seeking quality, nature, and authenticity in their vacations is growing, and they prefer Alonnisos not only for relaxation but also to learn a way of life that they will take with them upon leaving and make it their own,” notes Diogenis Theodorou, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Municipality of Alonnisos and a travel agent.
